Landscapes 2002-2005

Siripoj CHAMROENVIDHYA is a living artist, born in Bangkok in 1957 and living in Geneva since 1980. His preferred techniques are charcoal on paper and the use of industrial lacquer of different colours applied on wood boards. The subject of nature is the major component of his vision, but it sometimes slides towards works on the edge or even totally abstract. Let's say that his field of artwork is still principally the relationship with space and not, paradoxically, as one might be misled into believing by his choice of techniques and the use of two-dimensional, the investigation of the flat surface. The use of black and white by Siripoj CHAMROENVIDHYA always creates vibrant tension, searching for deepness in the space. By observing, by seeing his charcoals literally « close up » the figure of the landscape is often present, and obviously is paired with his fisheye perspective. But at exactly what degree do the mechanics of human vision work, we only know approximately ; the field of vision in Siripoj CHAMROENVIDHYA's charcoals is constantly veering towards enlargement.
